INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2017 #BeBoldforChange (IWD2017), MARCH 8,2017

International Women’s Day 2017 shortened as IWD2017 was an event organized on the 8th of March, 2017 to commemorate the day set aside to celebrate women all over the world. This event was in partnership with the One Campaign Organization commonly referred to as One.org our major partners. The IWD2017 was a rally organized to campaign for the rights of women and the girl child.

A Worldwide campaign was also held with the social media completely involved. The Theme for the day was #BeBoldForChange. Other inscriptions include ‘Poverty is Sexist’, ‘A Girl’s place is in the Classroom.
A call for volunteers was made by the organization to get interested and committed volunteers to participate in the rally and campaign activities. Interested Volunteers came from far and wide. Notable Volunteers were student from University of Ibadan, Polytechnic Ibadan, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), University of Lagos, other institutions across Nigeria and celebrities from the Nigerian Movie industry.

The day started out with an awareness rally. This is the phase where volunteers and organizers assembled and marched to all nooks and crannies of the Ibadan Vicinity to sensitize and notify the indigenes and passerby of the needs of the women and the girl child. Sensitization focused on the need for a girl child to get proper education and the fight against domestic violence on women.

After the rally, we then visited to the Oyo State Secretariat. A petition was signed by organizers and volunteers and taken to the Secretariat of the Oyo State Government to be received by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs.

After the rally, we decided to take things up a notch with a Vox-Pop Session. The Vox-Pop is termed as the Voice-Of-the-People. Our Volunteers visited malls, supermarkets and several landmarks in Ibadan to get the voice of the people on matters relating to women and the Girl Child.
